Tech Talk n°5 Do LED lamps emit UV?
What is the difference betweend LED and UV lamps?
Do LED lamps also emit UV radiation? Yes, they do. The major difference between LED and UV lamps is the spectrum of light emitted by these lamps.
Birgit, Product Development Director at ProNails, explains why hand positioning under an LED lamp is more crucial than under a UV lamp and why using an LED lamp is faster and smarter!
The light spectrum of LED lamps is narrower, which means the light hits a specific area, so the correct positioning of the finger in the lamp is critical. These positions are clearly indicated on the base plate of the lamp and can be felt when you place your hand inside. UV light is more diffuse, so hand positioning is less important.
You can cure nails in 30 seconds under an LED lamp, such as the Smart Light LED lamp. Under a UV lamp, it takes about 120 seconds, which is 4 times longer! What a difference!
Sometimes, we encounter 'fear' among salon clients regarding UV radiation, often fueled by unclear information spread through social media and the press. Therefore, we guarantee that all our lamps comply with strict European regulations. Research has shown that salon lamps are safe because the exposure time is very short. Walking back to your car in the open air after your appointment exposes you to more UV radiation than your nail service does.
Interestingly, the B System breaks all records in curing time because you apply fewer steps and everything cures in the curing mode 30 SOFT in the ProNails Smart Light LED lamp.
The importance of the finger positioning for a fully cured gel
The ProNails Smart Light LED lamp emits light waves that match the photo-initiators, monomers, oligomers, and other ingredients in the formula to ensure a perfect cure quickly. It is safe, fast, smart, and the only responsible way to cure your ProNails gels—all while keeping the warmth sensation for your clients under control!
The curing process under the LED lamp is much faster compared to UV lamps, taking no more than 30 seconds! Because the light spectrum emitted by UV lamps is broader, hand positioning within the lamp is less critical (as the light is more diffuse). However, since the light intensity emitted by a UV lamp is lower, the curing process with a UV lamp takes longer, typically around 120 seconds. So, with a UV lamp, you spend significantly more time on each nail service just due to the longer curing time for each layer.
Good to know! You can cure nails in 30 seconds under an LED lamp, such as the Smart Light LED lamp. Under a UV lamp, it takes approximately 120 seconds, which is 4 times longer! What a difference! We offer only lamps that make your work faster, smarter, and more efficient. ProNails has phased out UV lamps due to their longer curing times.
So, make sure to use the ProNails Smart Light if you want to increase your speed. The Smart Light is designed for speed, especially when using the B System!
What about curing toe nails?
The base plate of The Smart Light is designed with manicures in mind, as they are the most common. However, you can perfectly place all 5 toes at the level of the cutouts for the 3 middle fingers during a pedicure. This will also ensure optimal curing of gels on toenails.
Use the smart light LED lamp to cure safe and faster!
When curing gel nails, it is essential to use a lamp that is compatible with the products you are using. So make sure to stick with the same brand!
The ProNails Smart Light LED lamp emits specific light waves that match the photo-initiators, monomers, oligomers, and other ingredients in the formula. This ensures perfect and rapid curing. The lamp is safe, fast, and intelligent, providing efficient curing while controlling the warmth sensation for clients.
Are curing lamps safe?
Our curing lamps are guaranteed to be safe. When you’re outside, you receive more UV radiation than during a nail treatment. Want to know more about this? We’ve written an article on the topic!
