Tech Talk n°2 Acid or non acid formula?
How to detect acid in LED gels?
How can you tell if there is acid in your nail product?
When searching for acid-free LED gels, careful examination of the product label and packaging is crucial.
To categorize nail products as acid-free, the absence of acidic ingredients is a key criterion. This check can be easily performed by examining the INCI list.
Acidic ingredients, which are known for their corrosive effects on both skin and nails, are typically found in gels that chemically etch or roughen the nail surface. This process creates microscopic scratches for better adhesion.
While this process improves adhesion, it can weaken natural nails over time. Therefore, it is advised to avoid using standard acids if they are not necessary for your client’s type of nails.
Advantages of acid-free gels, such as B System gels:
Gels that do not contain acid have 3 key benefits: :
- Promote growth: Acid-free gels support natural nail growth without thinning or weakening the nails.
- Effortless Removal: The removal process is quick and uncomplicated, and the absence of acid prevents issues commonly associated with acid-containing gels.
- No pungent smell during application: The smell of acid can be unpleasant; acid-free gels avoid this issue.
Disadvantages of acid-free gels
Despite the potential benefits of acid-containing gels, there are also significant disadvantages.
These gels can carry the risk of weakening natural nails over time. Additionally, their removal can be challenging, often leading to over-filling and thinning of the nails. An additional issue is the strong smell released during application and removal, which is unpleasant for both you and your clients.
Checking for Acid Content in LED Gels
When searching for acid-free LED gels, a careful examination of the product label and packaging is crucial. The INCI list, which lists ingredients in decreasing concentration, is a valuable resource.
Products explicitly labeled as "acid-free" provide a clear indication of their composition. In cases where clarity is lacking, direct communication with the supplier is advisable to ensure accurate information.
Additionally, the stability of acid-free gels is notable, as they typically maintain a consistent composition, reducing the risk of pigment separation in the bottle. This ensures a reliable and user-friendly experience for both nail technicians and clients.
Because you don't need acid for every client
GO ACID FREE!
Some nail technicians always use a universal primer for all their clients. If the nails are not oily at all, you can use the ProNails Acid-Free Primer in a bottle!
When you combine this primer with the acid-free B System Gels (BFLEX, BSTRONG, BCOLOUR), no acid is involved. This is much better and healthier for the nails, especially for sensitive nails!
If your client has oily nails, you can opt for a Universal Primer to ensure better adhesion. However, never default to using a universal primer!
