Tech Talk n°16 What's the difference between 30 SOFT and 30 FULL?

What's the different between curing 30 seconds full and 30 seconds soft in the smart light led lamp?

Let’s start with the easiest! Which is the full curing mode at 100% capacity.

💡 30 sec FULL means that during the entire 30 seconds your lamp will give the maximum light capacity to the product.

You will usually use this FULL curing capacity for colours and for glosses.

💡 30 sec SOFT starts at a lower initial capacity of 40% during 10 seconds and then, during the next 10 seconds the light intensity will gradually rise to 100% light capacity. And only during the last 10 seconds the lamp will give 100% full light capacity.

There’s a very important reason for this: this is to allow products that need a gradual curing to receive a gradual light intensity.

The 30 sec SOFT mode is also very important to control avoid heat spikes when applying builder gels. Builder gels are generally applied a little thicker to build structure on the nail and will therefore emit more heat during curing.

It is known that heat is mostly generated at the beginning of the curing process when the reaction speed is at its highest.

So by reducing the light capacity in the beginning of the curing process you can reduce the reaction speed be therefore also the heat emission and thus avoid unpleasant heatspikes for your clients.

3 situations when you should use 60 soft in the smart light

  1. For very sensitive clients, including new clients who have never had gel on their nails before.
  2. For nail biters or damaged nails.
  3. When it is very hot outside and your clients’ hands are warm.

In all three situations your clients will be very susceptive to heat-spike so you will want to reduce the reaction speed as much as possible to spread out the heat emission.

During a 60 seconds SOFT curing mode the polymerisation starts at a very low power to allow a slow polymerisation of the gel without heat sensation.

During the first 20 seconds, this intensity of the lamp is reduced to 20% of its maximum light capacity.

Over the following 20 seconds, the light intensity will gradually increase up to 100% light capacity.

And only during the last 20 seconds, when most of the reactions have taken place, the LED lamp will shine at 100% capacity.

The polymerisation result will be the same in 30 SOFT and 60 SOFT, but the heat emission will be different. When curing in 60 SOFT, the heat released during polymerisation will be much less noticeable. And that’s exactly what sensitive nails need.
